SALOON Düsseldorf, founded in February 2025 by artist Beate Gärtner, is a growing network for women-identifying and non-binary art professionals who are active in the vibrant and traditional cultural metropolis of Düsseldorf and its surrounding areas, including the Ruhr region. Our vision is centered on promoting gender diversity, empowering our members, and increasing their visibility.
SALOON Düsseldorf reflects the multifaceted nature of the Düsseldorf art scene: artists ranging from painting to digital art, independent curators, journalists, art historians working at large institutions or off-spaces, as well as restorers, gallery owners, and staff from art associations. We aim to create an open forum for exchanging ideas and experiences, initiating collaborations and innovative projects, and supporting one another.

Beate Gärtner (she/her) is a contemporary artist based in Düsseldorf and the Ruhr area. Her works and projects have been showcased in exhibitions both nationally and internationally. She most recently studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and graduated at the HBK Essen in 2017. Between 2020 and 2024, she directed and curated the Neuland project space in Bochum. In her artistic practice, Beate Gärtner moves between the analog and digital worlds—realms that are increasingly merging in everyday life. Her work focuses on digital spaces, identities, and the transitions between analog and digital. She explores how digital media, apps, and technologies influence our perceptions, our relationships, and ultimately our sense of self. These observations form the starting point for her interdisciplinary works, which range from drawings and prints to objects and videos, as well as virtual and augmented reality installations. Her pieces offer poetic, often critical perspectives on the interplay between humans, machines, and mediated spaces.
